I have gone here twice recently. The first time I got enchiladas. Didnt like the entire plate. I tried the fish plate. It was a no go. Second time tried a chalupa nope. Price always doesnt seem to match the quality. The second time we went an hour before close. I really didnt mind them asking if they could take the ketchup the first three times. They ended up asking over five times. I get closing and wanting to leave on time, but it seemed excessive. Personally dont care for the food. I know my mother and aunt love the food. Pretty much why I got dragged there.

The food was just plain greasy, i got onion rings and a burger, both were bland and slippery with grease. Staff were definitely trying but I felt uneasy the whole time. Not for me, probably just a bad choice, but it just left me with a bad feeling.

This place has gone downhill. Their seating situation and service are terrible. They would rather leave empty tables than fill them because they dont want to bother other patrons. I get that, but we waited for a table of 5 still eating, and they wouldnt sit us around them even though there were multiple tables around them. I cant believe how terrible their service is now. There are much better restaurants to choose from in SA.

Worst chicken fried steak Ive ever had. It was super dry and seemed like it was a leftover piece of meat. This place used to be good but not anymore. I dont recommend eating at this place. We got there before the end of lunch special but since the waitress took a long time to serve us she didnt give us the lunch special price.

This is a very old and well established restaurant that has consistently served good basic Texas cuisine. I had fried fish and fries and lucky for me they added some onion rings! My siblings loved their food as well. Chicken fried steak, pepper steak, and a Mexican platter all delicious!

1st time back in over 16 years and nothing has changed...and thats alright. Its definitely a throwback atmosphere with all the neon beer signs glistening off the shiny, dark wood tables and decor. All the staff is friendly and courteous to everyone. Prices are definitely reasonable and might actually be the same as 16 years ago? I ordered the DINNER sized chicken fried steak that came with a warning from the waitress, and although it was big, it definitely wasnt going home with me. The white cream gravy was just your standard cream gravy and nothing to write home to mom about. What was interesting was the breading. Cant say what makes it different, but it just is. Im still not sure in a good or bad way... What I did like, was that IT WASNT GREASY AT ALL! Really loved that, and the meatiness of the steak itself. No dried up thin steak shrinking back from the edge of the crust, this was end to end tender, juicy meat! The fries were no biggie either. I will definitely be back to try out more of their varied menu filled with homestyle favorites. My hunt for the elusive yellow gravy continues.....

This is always a great place for comfort food and childhood memories...great fried chicken...not salty like most...always order the crispy dogs... Thats the childhood memories... 3 to an order so get ready for the fight lolol...and cold cold wait for it cold beer in giant schooners...yuumm UPDATE... Never disappointed. We decided to try a few appetizers and use that as our lunch. The onion rings thin sliced onions light batter yum. The super nachos. I remember them being better we both decided it was the picadillo meat that we didnt like. I think the last time I had these they were with a fajita beef meat ..much better call if you get the choice. Then we split a fish burger that was great. Not a high end choice, but we liked it.... And of course we had to have the crispy dogs. I lucked out eating lunch with a lightweight, so they got one and I got two. I think thats actually always my favorite go to. Honestly next time I think Im just going to order that...ok...maybe two orders... But I swear ill shareLOL. UPDATE...Still the place. Casual. Mary was fantastic! Crispy dogs are the best! UPDATE.. I will never be able to eat here and not start with the crispy dogs. Had the fried chicken, its a 20 minute wait so DONT be in a hurry, but well worth the wait! This chicken is as close to my moms as Ive had. And if you can get one of their famous giant ice cold scooners of beer do it! Parking: I said the parking was a bit of a challenge because when theyre busy it is. Theres a side parking and a back parking. But when all else fails theres a parking lot across the street make sure to pay attention to the signs because there are places you should not Park.

Its one of the best spots in the San Antonio Downtown area! They have been around for a long time and never disappoint! Food is excellent! And the beer is always cold! Must try spot!

Revisited this place after a short absence. This is a really good place to get some local Mexican food. This place has been around for many years and serves the normal Mexican food menu items as well as some fish dishes. I had the had the crispy tacos dinner plate. Others in our party had chicken fried chicken or chicken fried steak plates, which came with a salad and a side. The best thing is the bar. Its one of the best places in town to get an ice cold 16oz or 22oz beer in a schooner ... ahh, it is good!!! Definitely a place to visit, and be prepared to wait as they do get busy, especially of Friday and Saturday evenings
